Call for Musicians: Band for Freedom - 35 Years Since the Fall of the Berlin Wall

On 9 November, Berlin will celebrate the Peaceful Revolution and the fall of the Berlin Wall with the Festival for Freedom. The highlight of the evening will be a large concert along the former inner-city border strip between East and West. Kulturprojekte Berlin is now inviting musicians and singers to become part of the ‘Band of Freedom’, which will consist of several hundred members, and thus set a loud musical exclamation mark for freedom at the climax of this year's festivities.

Under the motto ‘Holding up freedom’, thousands of signs will be on display over a distance of more than 4 kilometres on 8 and 9 November, showing historical and current thoughts on freedom and democracy. The evening highlight is the ‘Band of Freedom’ concert, in which hundreds of musicians perform a live set of 5-7 songs along the route and rock for democracy and freedom together with the visitors. Kulturprojekte Berlin, the organiser of the festivities for the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, is looking for musicians for the ‘Band of Freedom’, which has never existed in this form before. Anyone who plays drums, bass, guitar, keyboards, vocals, wind, string or other string instruments can participate.

The approximately 700-strong ‘Band of Freedom’ will be put together from the registrations and placed along the route at 5 Big Points:

- Checkpoint Charlie
- Potsdamer Platz
- Brandenburg Gate
- Marie-Elisabeth-Lüders-Haus
- Futurium/Alexanderufer

You can apply on the event website until 7 October:
