Super Silent: The Dark Side of XJAZZ! FESTIVAL
Just as day follows night, storm turns into calm and chaos gives a way to peace - everything has two sides. So does XJAZZ! FESTIVAL.
On the 31.10-2.11.2024, XJAZZ! FESTIVAL has proudly presented Super Silent, a new project that aligns with this festival‘s vision while exploring a different sonic landscape. With the Super Silent concert series, XJAZZ! aims to reveal another facet of the music scene, transitioning from vibrant, groovy beats into ambient and fluid tones. Through this series, XJAZZ! team wants the audience to get grounded in the unstoppable flow of Berlin city life, allowing the music to remit the city's intense energy.
The first edition of Super Silent concert series happened at Emmauskirche featuring 6 acts of new, improvised, and experimental music.
DAY 1: 31.10. Kit Downes / Glass for Two (Pascal Schumacher & Danae Dörken)
The first act of the opening night was Glass for Two. This joint project of the German-Greek pianist Danae Dörken and vibraphonist and composer Pascal Schumacher from Luxembourg, took the audience on a fascinating artistic journey through the multifaceted legacy of the American minimalist Philip Glass. Straight after, Kit Downes performed a hypnotic set on church organ – we were completely mesmerized by the vibes he delivered.
DAY 2: 1.11. Philo Tsoungui / Korhan Erel
Philo Tsoungui, a multi-instrumentalist and video artist, opened the second day of Super Silent series with a solo show, which is quite a rare case! The artist's music is a contemporary endeavour free from limitations, balancing between genre and emotions. Hard to categorize, highly unique and intriguing. The second act - Korhan Erel, an electronic composer, sound designer, improviser, and innovator. Korhan presented an experimental brand-new piece, which led to sounds and harmonies far off the beaten track.
DAY 3: 2.11. Kaan Bulak/ Isabel Anders
The final night of Super Silent 1 series was dedicated to solo piano. Isabel Omara Espichicoque Anders, a German/Cuban pianist, composer, and improviser, has conducted an honest and sensitive musical dialogue with the audience, while composer and sound artist Kaan Bulak, blurred the boarders between electronic and neo classical music.
The next edition, Super Silent 2, will happen on 23.01-26.01.2025 at Emmauskirche. The church will once again serve as an immersive space, blurring the boundaries between artists and audience in a mystical and intimate environment. Subscribe to Super silent channels not to miss a thing:
